When I looked out the window and the thermometer outside I realized I had to put on some outdoor gear and go plug in my truck! No more "warm" weather in the 20s! We are right on track now. Normal Interior Alaska winter has struck!
It was below zero other places. I'm at a slightly higher elevation, so it's a little warmer at my house.
It's been snowing for the last 24 hours, at least. It doesn't look like it is going to let up any time soon, and I have 6—8 inches of snow already.
This is kind of fun, because it's still what we Alaskans call "warm" outside, with temperatures hanging around 30°. Unfortunately that makes for very slippery driving, not something I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
However the dogs are very happy, and it is fun to play in the snow. People are getting their snow machines and skis out all over town.

Ours is a low-kill shelter that has to deal with huge quantities of sled dogs every Spring, and with constant numbers of pets being dumped by departing military families, plus the usual stray and unwanted pets. I have seen quite a few dogs saved for several YEARS by our shelter, but we could do better, I have no doubt and money is always needed.
This time of year is critical. Animals left outside in winter DIE, we have lots of kitties whose ears have been frozen off! The money could go a long way toward saving the lives of many, many animals.
Please take just a minute to vote for our animal shelter in the Far North. Please vote every day. Thank you! And pass it on!
