Winter Recital is December 14, 2009

Rehearsal for the recital will be Saturday, Dec. 12  at 2:30pm
in the Tartan Tundra Studio (where you get lessons)
This is a mandatory rehearsal!

MONDAY,  Dec. 14, 2009 is our Winter Recital
Everyone is invited!

PLACE: Noel Wien Library Auditorium

TIME: Students should arrive at 6:30pm. Program starts at 7:00pm. The program will last roughly an hour, to be followed by a potluck afterward.

IMPORTANT: Instruments should be tuned beforehand if possible.  Ms. Jean will help tune everyone. She will check intonation of all instruments regardless, as they can go out of tune in transit.

DRESS: Dress up if you like, but it is not required. Be sure you are comfortable!  Dressing up can be fun, but be sure you are comfortable playing music.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: All friends, family, neighbors and prospective students! Everyone is welcome.

THINGS TO BRING:
It may seem silly, but we sometimes forget the most obvious things!

    Musical instrument
    Music
    Rosin for violins
    Picks for guitars (if you use one)
    Cameras/video recorders
    Potluck dish


A POTLUCK FOLLOWS THE PROGRAM
 Please bring a dish or snack to share to help celebrate the accomplishments of our talented and hard-working students.  Please don’t bring staining drinks (ie: Hawaiian Punch, grape juice, etc.).  We have use of the little kitchen if it is needed. Don’t forget to bring a serving spoon.
I appreciate help clearing up after our evening of fun, too! Thanks!

New Strum & Sing Class Starts Next Week

We at it again! Singing songs and strumming away on ukulele, guitar and mandolin!

Set aside a usually boring Tuesday night for the next four weeks for fun and laughter with friends and new friends as we attempt some of the oddest songs ever played on small hand instruments.

Beginners are totally welcome, we'll get you up to speed in no time flat!

October 6. 13. 20, and 27
7 to 8pm
$45 for the entire month. Must be paid either in advance (preferred) or at the first class.

IMPORTANT: We can only fit ten people in here, so sign up NOW! If we do not have at least five students the class will be postponed until we have at least that number.

Will You get a Booger-Flavored One?

This won't be your usual candy machine.

You may have noticed the new gumball machine that is filled with jelly beans. It's on the desk in the studio. For a quarter, you get a nice little handful of jellybeans, the fancy flavored kind. You know, nice flavors like bubblegum, cherry, cinnamon, cappuccino, and peach, among thirty-six others.

Next week the number of flavors goes up: I'll be adding several packages of Bernie Bott's Every Flavor Bean to the mix. So you might get one, and you might not. You never know until you eat them if you are going to get a grass flavored (or worse, vomit flavored) jellybean!

Gunther Anderson is one of those odd people that I just love. He collects playing cards, films, and has put up a wonderfully diverse bunch of songs, indexed both by composer and song title. While it isn't the prettiest site, (in fact it is spare, bare and functional), it is one of the most accurate sites I've found for both lyrics and chords.

School is starting in a couple weeks! Seems unreal that it is so soon, but I'm already setting up lesson times for returning students. So now is the time to get the time slot you really need, the lesson time that is most convenient for you. Don't wait until October when my schedule is mostly filled up! Give me a call or an email and get the ball rolling, it's going to be a busy year!

Guitar for Sale

Tacoma 6-string guitar, in NEW condition! I bought this guitar about a year ago, and never really used it much. I have acquired another guitar that isn't as beautiful as this one but it fits my little hands better. The Tacoma has an abalone shell inlay around the sound hole, a beautiful spruce top, rosewood back, and is in NEW condition. Made in the USA. It retailed for $1410 and I am selling it for $700. The headstock picture shows original price tag.

Strum & Sing Class Still Going Strong

If you play guitar, mandolin or ukulele (both types) and want to get more proficient at it and have fun at the same time, this is the class for you!

Adult Strum & Sing Class: Tuesdays at 7pm-8pm.
Teens welcome! Next session starts August 11. $45

If singing and playing at the same time is your issue, we got you covered. It helps so much to have the group to sweep you along, filling in the blanks where you fumble, and letting you get the hang of things "invisibly." Plus it is loads of fun!

Expect to learn various strumming patterns that really help bring these songs to life. Having a guitar or a mandolin amongst the ukuleles adds a combo quality to the sound and we sounded pretty darn good after this last four weeks.
