Ole woke me up at 6:57 this morning barking at something outside. Since Sofia wasn't barking I figured it was my neighbor going to work. He has a tendency not to let any neighbor "get away with anything" and we are working on lessening his sense of territory a bit.
He has taken to sleeping by the front door, my little protector guy!
But he started talking to me. Going "arrrOooOOOOOooOO!!!" Which is what he does, instead of barkbarkbark to tell me MOM, MOM MOM MOM! I NEED you! :-D
I love this guy!
My house is a converted cabin: the windows are NOT numerous nor large. People foolishly think windows are a liability with the cold temps, but they are not, anymore, with double-paned modern plastic windows....I'll put in more as soon as I can, but right now there are still just a few....
Sofia ran downstairs to see what he was barking at out the front window. There was nothing but my neighbor across the street going to work. I looked out the side window. Nothing.
Out the back window, where Ole couldn't see, I found THIS next to the dog yard fence:
Mama Moose and her calf (calf being the size of a pony). That's the more than six-foot fence...and the fuzziness is my breath on the window. I forgot to hold my breath while taking pictures!
Continuing their browsing stroll through my place, they rounded the corner of the house....and arrived near the dog cable run on the side....The calf was about ten feet from the window at this point.
...and off into the woods behind my shed.
We are going to have to be a lot more careful on walks. The moose are VERY active and this won't be the last bunch through my property.
NOW you know why the dogs are NEVER left alone in the yard!
Oh, and what were the dogs doing while I was taking pictures?
Following me around, watching intently and not making a PEEP! Sofia knows not to bark at moose (she almost got stomped once and it scared her pretty badly) and I guess Ole figured I was the Boss and was taking care of The Problem.
