A couple of weeks ago (BFFS: Before Forest Fire Smoke) I found a nice screen door at a yard sale, and got it installed so that I could take advantage of the cool winds that often blow from the East.
It was lovely, even though I had to bungie-cord it closed. Then the door got closed TOO well and caught in the frame and I was stuck inside my own home, unable to get out! I called my neighbor but she was not home. I had to call a friend all the in from Ester to spring me free.
My thought was that if there had been a fire I'd have been in deep trouble. Sure, maybe adrenaline would have allowed me to just blast through the door and know the frame out of the doorway. But what if I couldn't do that? What if it was so hot that I only had seconds to get us out?
It was very unsettling.
The door frame that was the problem has been removed. A fix will be made. But in light of that freaky half hour that I was locked inside, I've moved my Back Door Fund to the top of the column on the left. Time is running out for construction up here in Alaska. August is the beginning of Fall. Business has been very, very slow this summer and short of a windfall, it doesn't look like I'll be able to afford this project without a bit of help. If you'd like to donate, please, any amount would be wonderful. I will post pictures of the project as it goes along, if I can just get it started! Thanks!
