On Sunday we went from Fall to Winter with a very cold wind. I went out and took pictures of the beautiful trees because I knew it would be my last chance. Sure enough, cloud cover moved in and yesterday it rained and snowed most of the day. Last night it froze hard. I had covered my little potted rosebush for the past two nights but around midnight last night I brought it inside, no worse for the wear. Now I have to decide whether to cut it back and winter it in the water tank room (which is heated to 40° so my water won't freeze) or not cut it back and see if it will survive in a house.
I'm not happy about this shift. This year has been odd, in that our seasonal changes have all happened, not in fits and starts, but BANG, within a 24 hour period. If you recall we went to Fall the same way. I'm all for an easy transition, but it's rough to go from wearing sandals and a T-shirt to coat, hat and boots all at once.
I can only hope that when Spring comes, it's the same: a switch is flipped and BANG, Spring. I could deal with that.
