  • I've been teaching private music lessons for over 20 years. In October of 2008 I found a wonderful space for a music studio, and Tartan Tundra Music was born.

    Instruments taught:

    Violin/Fiddle:in many styles including Classical, Celtic, Old Timey, Alaskan, International (Russian, Scandinavian, Eastern European) and more.

    Mandolin: Mainly in Old Timey and Celtic styles, but the mandolin is just as versatile as the violin and can be used in many wonderful kinds of music.

    Guitar: Folk, rock, oldies, Celtic... Ukulele: One of the most amusing and fun instruments ever! And great for beginners of all ages!

    Viola: A viola is larger than a violin with a lovely, deep sound, but the method of playing is the same as violin.

    Bodhrán: Irish drum. There is an art to this, it isn't just whacking away on a drum head. Fun and interesting.

    Vocal Coaching: I can help you get your voice out in the open and help you sing.

Take Music Lessons via Skype, Facetime or Google

  • Taking Distance Lessons
    Distance Lessons are $36 per half hour, and $54 for 45 minutes. Lessons are taken via various apps such as Facetime, Zoom, or Google Meet. I prefer FaceTime for the quality and ease of use, but there are many ways to connect. You must have a web camera and have the app for one of on your computer, laptop, tablet or phone. Also, please let me know which one you want to use!

Young Native Fiddlers at the Athabascan Fiddle Festival

The Athabascan Fiddle Festival is happening right now, and started yesterday! I teach with the Young Native Fiddlers program, and will be leading the children in a performance tomorrow, November 12, at 3:30 in the David Salmon Tribal Hall. Bill Stevens is one of my co-teachers and will be there with his classes as well.

On Saturday I'll be performing solo at McCafferty's, a cozy coffees shop on Cushman next to Sadler's, in downtown Fairbanks. This will be an informal, intimate gig sans electronic amplification. Plus it is likely that I'll play there periodically, once a month or so, so keep checking back here if you'd like to catch me in a live gig.

Tartan Tundra Music's Winter Recital is coming up soon, on December 6 at the Noel Wien Public Library auditorium. I have a bumper crop of wonderful students who will perform for your enjoyment. The program begins at 7pm, with students arriving at 6:30 for tuning and preparation.

We have a potluck after the program, so please bring something to share if you can. It's not required, but it's nice.

All interested folks are invited!
