As the snow alternately drips and and then freezes, the students at Tartan Tundra are getting ready to spring forth with a big sound: this Spring Recital we are going to play the Star Wars theme all together, all twenty of us! Possibly more than that, I haven't counted everyone yet...
There are plenty of schools that don't even have that many in their orchestras and I find myself quite excited to organize this! We will have guitars, mandolins and violins, and I am hoping to draft a couple parents to fill in with a few other instruments, too.
As soon as I started telling students and parents that we'd be playing Star Wars I was asked, "Can we wear our costume?" Mind you, this happened three times on the first day I started handing out the music! So not only will we be knocking you over with a stupendous musical number, we'll be dressed for the event, as well! At least, anyone who wants to wear their Jedi robes for Princess Leia hair buns or whatever, is welcome to do so. It can only add to the fun! However I do think that laser swords would be best left at home, I can just see all manner of ways those would be inconvenient.
Usually I have a rehearsal the Saturday before the recital, which in this case will be May 7 in the late afternoon or early evening. That way you can get your skiiing or snow machining in beforehand. However I think there may be an earliler rehearsal, since this is such a large undertaking and I will talk to all of you and find out what works the best. In all likelihood it will be on another Saturday afternoon.
As usual, there will be other group pieces as well, of a more fiddlely nature, possibly a couple duets, and of course the individual performances for which everyone practices very diligently.
After all the music fun our traditional potluck and visiting rounds out the evening.
About mid-April I will send home a sheet with all the information, what to bring, rehearsal times, etc. It even includes a checklist so that you don't go out the door with your music or camera. That may sound funny but it has happened in the past!
I very much want to get this on digital video, so let me know if you can volunteer to immortalize our grand efforts!
