Get A Look At Our Recital

Unbeknownst to anyone at all, I arranged for some local Star Wars enthusiasts to walk in while we were playing the Star Wars theme. Check out the audience reaction!

 

These nice people are from the Aurora Borealis 501st Legion Alaskan Outpost (the 501st is Darth Vader's) and they did this out of the goodness of their hearts. Much love, folks!

Recital, Monday, May 9, 2011: You are all invited

We've had two excellent group practices on the big bang-up group pieces! All the students have been practicing for the upcoming recital, both their solo pieces and their group numbers. I am always very impressed with how the rehearsals go: everyone plays together so well! You are going to love our rendition of the Star Wars theme.

On Saturday some students told me that there were storm troopers outside. I looked at them and said, perplexed, "We have STATE Troopers but there are really no such thing as storm troopers, that's on Star Wars." However they insisted that there were REAL storm troopers and finally I figured it out: there were some folks in storm trooper costumes in front of the comic book shop! Whew! For a minute there I thought I'd pushed the whole Star Wars thing just a tad bit too far! Of course the first thought I had was that we should ask them to come to the recital. And when the older children were done with their lessons, they walked down to the comic book store to do just that. Unfortunately the storm troopers had gone home to have dinner. Even storm troopers have to eat.

Come and listen and visit and have a snack, (bring a snack to share if you can) and enjoy all the music. We are having three duets, as well as the big group pieces and the solos.

Students to arrive at 6:30. Program begins at 7pm. Music for about an hour, visit and eat for about 45 minutes.

I would very much like to get the recital digitally recorded. If you have that capabiliy, please let me know and bring your equipment. Additionally, if you record parts of the recital (of course you want to immortalize your child, right?) please send or bring me (thumb drives are handy) a copy. Thanks, and see you Monday night!

Let's SING!

I love to sing. Going to instrumental jams is fun, but singing is basic, easy and fun! Fairbanks doesn't have a song circle and I say it's time we do! Therefore, starting Tuesday, May 17  at 7pm, and every Tuesday thereafter, let's get together and sing songs! It's fun and free, of course.

This is how it works, for those of you who missed the Folk Revival of the 60s:

If you have a song you want to sing, and you want to teach it to the group, bring a few sheets with the words and chords. Some of us will undoubtedly bring a guitar or banjo or two for accompaniment.The book Rise UP Singing is a handy songbook and lots of us already own it.We'll go around the circle, and everyone will get a chance to pick a song to sing.

I can copy songs on my little copy machine/printer for a small donation to help keep me in ink.

That's it. Pretty simple, eh?

This group is for adults and teens, as we may get silly and sing songs that would not be appropriate for children. If there are people who would like to start a kids' song circle, let me know.

How about some themed singalongs? We could have Sea Shanty night, Celtic Song Night, Silly Song Night...I love a novelty song, I have to say. Perhaps we could have a night now and again where you could bring your 5 and older children.

I'm excited and hope to see plenty of enthusiastic folks on May 17.
