Winter Recital: Thursday,  December 12, 2013

MANDATORY REHEARSAL: 2pm, Saturday, Dec. 7, at Tartan Tundra Studio. This will take about half an hour. If a second rehearsal is needed I may schedule one for 3pm as well. We are only going over our group pieces. Not all students are playing both pieces.

PLACE: Noel Wien Library Auditorium, Cowles St.

TIME: Students should arrive at 6:30pm. Program starts at 7:00pm. The program will last roughly an hour, to be followed by a potluck afterward. We must be done by 8:45.

IMPORTANT: Instruments should be tuned beforehand if possible.  Ms. Jean will help tune everyone. She will check intonation of all instruments regardless, as they can go out of tune in transit.

DRESS: Dress up if you like, but it is not required. Be sure you are comfortable!  Dressing up can be fun, but be sure you are comfortable playing music.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: All friends, family, neighbors and prospective students! Everyone is welcome.

THINGS TO BRING:
It may seem silly, but we sometimes forget the most obvious things!

    Musical instrument
    Music
We will need about eight music stands--also needed for rehearsal
    Rosin for violins
    Picks for guitars (if you use one)
Cameras/video recorders--please send me any video so I can post it on our web site!
    Potluck dish


A POTLUCK FOLLOWS THE PROGRAM
 Please bring a dish or snack to share to help celebrate the accomplishments of our talented and hard-working students.  Please don’t bring staining drinks (ie: Hawaiian Punch, grape juice, etc.).  We have use of the little kitchen if it is needed. Don’t forget to bring a serving spoon. If a parent would like to coordinate and call other parents, that would be great.
I appreciate help clearing up after our evening of fun, too! Thanks!

SKYPE or FACETIME Lessons ONLY November 13

We have freezing rain, the schools are closed, and many people have not gone to work, either.

Luckily, we can continue with lessons via the computer! Check the sidebar for information on using Skype! I'll login and be there at your regular lesson time. If that time doesn't work for you, please email me or send a text to my cell phone. I sent an email with the pertinent information earlier. Email me at jeanofiddler at gmail dot com to let me know of any problems or just to confirm.

It will depend on the weather as to whether we have in-studio or Skype lessons tomorrow, November 14. Stay tuned!

When the weather gets rough, we still keep playing!

What with all the storms coming and going, and the prospect of the real cold setting in, I thought I'd let you know when we would do Skype/Facetime lessons as opposed to driving into town and meeting at the studio.

I generally go to town no matter what, but there are some exceptions.

We will do lessons via Skype or Facetime when there is:

1. Black ice. I don't want to drive if we have a bunch of black ice, and I don't want you to get in a smash up trying to get to a lesson.

2. Lots and lots of snow. I live ten miles from town. Some of you live that far and farther. Sometimes the snow plows get out this far in time for me to drive in, and sometimes they don't.

3. If it is -40 and is going to go colder that day. I'm okay with -40, but most people prefer to stay home.

4. Zombie apocalypse. ;-)

If you have an Apple device, Facetime is great. On ANY computer or pad or phone you can do Skype, which is free and available here: http://www.skype.com/
You MUST have high-speed internet. It will not work on dial up!

It's a good idea to set up Skype or Facetime NOW, rather than wait for 12 inches of snow to block you into your driveway.

Additionally: A great time to use Skype for a lesson is when you are too sick to come to the studio, but not too sick to play your instrument.
